Size, character set and speed change when the message next loops — the ROM only alters them at a safe point so the scroll never tears.

The NES palette has several near-identical whites — $20 and $30 are the same colour. If two slots look the same on screen, that is why.

Changelog

Remix — DOT.AY

  • Browser editor — set the message and all four palette colours, download a ready ROM. No assembler needed.
  • Wave mode — Up/Down bend the scroll into a sine wave at three amplitudes. Whole letters stay intact and words ride at different heights.
  • Reverse scrolling — Left and Right change direction on the fly.
  • Switchable text colour — A flips between two palette slots. Held down it strobes.
  • Full-height edge masks — the shading blocks now cover the whole screen, so waving text is hidden properly as it enters and leaves.
  • Background colour is editable — it was previously locked to black by a palette mirroring quirk, and the edge shading now follows it.
